My biggest was only 17 1/2 lbs. but 11 1/2" beard and 1 1/4" spurs. Girlfriend Val got a 25 1/2 lb., 11 1/4 " beard, and 1" spurs 3 years ago at 38 feet.

I did 'nt know what I had 'till I walked up on it. Two were in the thick stuff and I shot the red head instead of white.

She had the big tom strutting at 18 feet from her and let it walk aways towards the decoy set up until she shot. She was seriously thinking of taking a nap and made one last look down the field edge. Saw a large black fan close and about had a heart attack. But held her cool and got him.

Shot a 21 lb, 12 inch beard with 1 3/4 spurs 3 2 years ago that was estimated at 5.5-6 years old.

Shot a 22 lb, 11 inch beard with 1 1/4 spurs last year.

I shot the old bird on the last week of the season and think that he may have lost a little weight over the 4 week season.<img src="/images/boards/smilies/frown.gif" border="0" align="absmiddle">

I actually shot this bird in West Virginia. I grew up in a small town along the Ohio River called Wellsburg. Being from a small town you meet a lot of the local famers and I had permission to hunt a woodlot that was surrounded on 2 sides by corn and 2 sides by winter wheat. The farmer had left alot of the corn standing throughout the winter giving the birds plenty of food to get big and fat. I called in another gobbler that year that weigheed 20 lbs. I have my big bird mounted and I will take some pictures and post them. Needles to say I have killed alot of birds since but none of them has been as big as that bird.
