The interesting thing about the 2015-2106 season is that the masses clamored for reduce limits and got them, however the overall harvest was up 8%.

Modest gain from last year, but still below the 2013/14 harvest.

I think the weather contributed to increased hunter activity in the woods which contributed to the increase.
By this time tomorrow there will be 20 posts from people complaining about the dates.......
Not sure the weather helped out, I remember it raining cats and dogs for that 2 day gun season and muzzle loader season wasn't much better.
Early harvest of crops state wide played a big part.

I'll start early... I just don't get making the bonus gun season in the middle of the week.

+1 very STUPID !!!
Because not everyone has weekend days off.
Yes this is true. I just wonder if the ''big plan'' is to rotate it every year, which would in time include partial weekends which would be the best of both worlds IMHO. Lots of folks have the week off between holidays week off and school's out.
The two day bonus being during the week is a compromise between the "I want the two day season back" crowd and the "we need to reduce the number of deer killed" crowd. Fewer people are going to be available to go out, even if it's 10,000 and estimating that 1/3 will be successful that 3,000 fewer deer killed than if it was on a weekend when those 10,000 could go out.

the division is trying to reign in the harvest without decreasing opportunity. If you want to hunt bad enough most are able to make it happen. But they also realize that not as many will hunt weekdays vs weekends. Therefore the opportunity is not taken away, but harvest will be reduced. I personally like it.
I like it. I can take off pretty much whenever I want, and there is less chance of tons of people being around. Everyone hates the weekend warrior waterfowlers. Why not the weekend warrior deer hunterst too?
I guess I'll kill my deer either way but it seems if they want us to kill less deer just lower the bag limit per county and leave the dates when most people can hunt. Lowering the states total deer kill is not the solution on a per county problem.
As far as the weekend warrior, I don't mind them. They just help get more deer up and moving. Send 'em my way!
They are bonus days. Why look a gift horse in the mouth. The addition of weekdays is not a big deal. I do not care if seasons are not framed around my personal schedule.
No one is required to hunt any day of any season, do not like the days/dates stay home.
