Stop putting in for Mercer if you're only to trade it

Currently there are 12 Mercer hunts on the transfer board and based on the posting the vast majority have zero intention of using them, the only intention is for trading fodder. Leave them for those of us who would use them!

BTW, no one is going to trade a Mercer for a deer hunt. They won't trade a Magee or Ottawa either.

I'll climb off my soapbox now.

PS- Yes, I know I have mine on there but it's a Mercer for Mercer trade. It doesn't count so suck it. :)

All not to mention its illegal.... Why it isn't enforced is beyond me.

" It shall be unlawful for any person to buy, sell, trade, or barter any controlled hunting, fishing or trapping permit issued by the division of wildlife. It shall be lawful to exchange any controlled hunting, fishing or trapping permit issued by the division of wildlife with another successful applicant selected for the same controlled hunting, fishing or trapping opportunity. "

It's not illegal if you are trading it permit for permit. It's only illegal if you gain a monetary benefit from the trade.

It clearly says in the Ohio Revised Code as I posted that it is ONLY legal if you are trading for THE SAME HUNT. You cannot trade a Pickeral for a Pipe Creek or a Mercer for a Ravenna.
speaking of that, I got a hunt available to transfer at The Budnick Marsh for a Castalia trout..... let me know, thanks.

It doesn't CLEARLY state anything.

The way it reads that anybody can trade anybody anything as long as its the "same controlled hunting opportunity"

A state controlled hunt is a state controlled hunt. same opportunity

This is a spirit of the law-v-the letter of the law issue. Speeding is speeding whether you're 2 over or 20 over either way you're speeding. Now you don't always get a ticket and you don't always get stopped it all falls into discretion. They don't want to see someone selling it on Ebay or Craigslist because whatever animal is being hunted belongs to the people and not to an individual person so it can't be sold.

Speeding is illegal whether you're 2 or 20 over. If an officer decides to give you a ticket for going 2 over, you're getting a ticket. When you go in to court to fight it and challenge, "I've done it a hundred time before and never gotten a ticket", what do you think the judge will say?

No different with trading hunts. The law is the law, the fact that it isn't enforced doesn't make it legal. And if/when you get a knock on your door and a game warden has a screen shot of you trading a hunt on Facebook, don't plan on using "spirit of the law v letter of the law" as a defense.

Fact is, its illegal.
Mike , no one gives a flying _ _ _ _ what you think about trading hunts.

If they wanted to push it. It should read "EXACT" same hunt. People have been trading them for years and they know it.

These things are so good I quit sending in for them 20 years ago. MJ
BLAH BLAH BLAH. About 8 or 9 years ago my family drew 2 Magee hunts, so I called the nice guy with glasses at Magee and he refered me to this place called Ohio waterfowlers to transfer the extra hunt. So here i am today trying to transfer a Mercer goose hunt for an earlier date or a prime Plumbrook deer hunt. I can't tell you how many of these hunts Iv'e been on where we never pulled the trigger, but I always had fun, and this awesome Mercer hunt that I have, if it can't be transferred. I'll give it to someone out that way that will use it

Actually it clearly states, in a 3rd grade reading level, that you can swap hunts you just cannot trade an individual a magee for an ottawa if said individual has already obtained a magee for example. No double dipping and as previously mentioned no financial gain. But everybody hears something different then tells a buddy who tells another buddy so on and so forth. By the end of nobody knows **** just likes to try spit some regulation read somewhere on some page of some Internet site because the Internet is 100% right...Probably not. Don't see the big deal in swapping hunts. I got a mercer and while I have it listed if it doesn't get swapped I'll use it or give it to someone.
I will gladly put to use any Mercer permits. Not that the hunting is so great but because the set up is fat man friendly and its got great views of the sunrise:D
