I hunt with an 11-87, the only trouble Ive had with it was cycling light loads after I hunted with it all day in the rain the day before. So its my own fault but still made me mad. My shotgun is just like my truck I expect reliability no matter what the conditions. So with that said would I buy another one yes. Would I buy one over a M1? Don't know never shot one.

shot a 11-87 for a coupla years, had problems, but killed lots of ducks with it.Why not get a sbe for around the same money? I quit shooting 3.5's last year(dont need them on decoying ducks) but might as well be able to slam a road flare in there if you ever need the 31/2.This is assuming the m2 is like the M1 and only takes 3".As a side note,my 11-87 suffered from some factory deffects, than I over oiled it,than I under oiled it.When it worked,it worked well.Threw a slug barrel on it,dropped in hi viz sites, and it is a very nice shooting deer gun now.I also noticed that my 26" sbe is only 1/2 " shorter than my 28" 11-87.figure that one out.Good luck in whatever you get.

I know you posted you were only going to consider the 11-87 and the M2, but you should seriously think about the Stoeger 2000. I own one and used it last year through duck/goose... Never had a problem! Cleaning isnt as much of a problem/hassle with the inertia systems as with the gas. Its a cheaper alternative and I wouldnt trade mine for any other 3" hunting semi-auto on the market. If you have any questions about it, let me know.. Just a thought.
