----------------------------
"Dear Senator:...
Historically the Senate has allowed use of the filibuster to preserve the two party system and to make sure that one party has at least some check on excesses by the other.
It guarantees, in other words, that the Senate will preserve its democratic process.
Current threats to abolish the filibuster rule “to uphold the President's right to make judicial nominations†are disingenuous. The vast majority of George W. Bush's highly conservative nominees have been approved since 2001, and the filibuster has been threatened only in less than a dozen flagrant cases.
Please oppose the “nuclear option†and allow the traditional democratic process in the Senate to continue!
Sincerely, "
Note: This letter supports campaigns by Earthjustice and a number of other civil rights and environmental organizations. It goes to the Senate.
This letter will be sent with the subject: Senate continue filibuster to protect minority rights
