Mosly all Pintails. This was back in the late 60's early 70's, I can't recall right off hand and it was in the Pacific Flyway.

The one with the hunting partner was a great hunt. We got into this pothole and it seemed like every Pintail in the county wanted to get into that hole. We had less than a dozen decoys out and there was only a small clump of weeds in the center of the pothole to hide and it wasn't big enough for more than one person so we took turns sitting in it to shoot. The other guy would hide in the weeds on the edge of the pothole and just whistle at the birds. I used an old wood Pintail whistle and Doc never used a call just his mouth. We were out of there in less than an hour and a half with 3 of us shooting. Great Time!...

The seven bird limit was taken in dense fog. I walked to a pothole that I knew birds would use and as I approached the edge I could hear the birds on the water in the fog so I hid on the edge and waited for the fog to start to lift. as the fog lifted the Pintails just erupted off the water in waves about a minute or two apart. I shot the limit without setting out decoys. Was back at the truck in an hour after shooting time started.

Dick
