I use to run a 70 H.p Johnson and had the same problem and it was the fuel delivery, those fuel connectors sometimes get gummed up or do not seat properly i replaced mine twice and it ran fine.....

Make sure to check your gas tank as well. I had something similar happen to my 1999 25HP Johnson 2 stroke when it was brand new. It turned out that there was a hairline crack in the nozzle that sucks the gas from the tank to the hose and that small amount of air was causing the motor to cut out when you gave it the throttle.

same thing happened on mine. it ended up being a bad temperature sensor. I had the water temp checked and it was fine but the sensor was sending a warning so the engine would go into safety mode and not rev up.

most likely tyou are sucking air due to the hose or fittings having a leak. make sure your vent on the tank is open and free and clear. i had aftermarket fitting that was new be faulty. replace w/omc parts only for reliability ,especially when you need the mota da most, like january.
