Does anybody know anything about the Hebron Fish Hatchery Waterfowl hunts?...

Are they worth going to?

my son has a 10-31-15 hunt and was wondering what to expect?

Thanks for any help......

Like any hunting it can be boom or bust. We farm next to the wetland. I could give you a bird report when it gets a little closer to your date. Do you know which blind he got?
Thanks haven't got the blind info yet will let ya know
That time of year is usually pretty good. Guys at buckeye push all the birds on there. I drive past it to work most days and it fills up pretty good once the lake starts getting shot up
My son drew an Oct 3. What should we expect to need gear wise? Are we talking waders, boat, etc?

Not a duck hunting expert by any mean, barely hunted at all. My dad got drawn for a 1-23 hunt there in the winter, talked to the manager there and he was really helpful. Waders are all that are needed, a boat would be way to much (in my opinion as well, its not THAT big of an area). Lots of walking paths to get you close to your blind so you might want to hold off on putting on the waders til you get close. They are box style blinds that have been brushed in. Depending on the blind you might be able to get away with hip boots (his words, not mine). Hope that helps, if not call the hatchery and talk to him and hell give you all the info you need.
I have taken my son and some friends to Hebron several times. Definitely do not need a boat. Short hike to the blinds. Should be good for the youth and regular openers. Plenty of wood ducks. If you are chosen for the blind closest to the parking lot, I would not go. That one has never been productive even on good days.
We got are blind it is blind number 3
I'll second the earlier post, blind one is poor at best. The other blinds in the central part of the wetland are pretty good. Lots of geese on the fish ponds up front yesterday. They have been flying off around 7:30 feeding in our fields until 10-11 then back to the hatchery and lake. Good luck.
My son is going October 4. Next weekend. We have the permit but it doesn't state what blind number. How do I find out what blind we are assigned to?
You will get it I in the mail we got ours Friday
Thanks. We were going to go up today to look at blinds but would be nice to know which one we will be using.
Someone backed out and We got blind 3. I guess its in the middle. I hope it pans out. Its a 2 hr drive
We will be in the back in blind 4. Looking forward to it.
Scouted last weekend. Blind 3 had the birds in front of it. My son is hunting blind 3 tomorrow.
I was in blind 3. Non stop action. The kid's shooting was off. The wind was wrong for the blind. Shots were tough. He didnt have waders or we woulda moved to cattails straight across from us. He ended up with 2 woodies. Shoulda had limit of mallards.
Hunting outside the blinds is not permitted. Too close quarters for everyone's safety, especially for youth hunters. Congrats on the hunt. I saw the pic on the other thread, looks like someone had a good time!

I guess I didn't realize it.The blind was too far away from the dekes. It was all last minute for me. I grew up with one of the guys that works at the hatchery. He called me lastnite. The blind was open because someone couldn't make it. It was offered to other people before us. Its 2 hrs for me to to get there.
