I have a bunch of cheap ducky sounding duck calls that i use for hunting, but i would like to get into comp. calling and was wondering what would be a good starter call. Easy to blow, lower price. Any suggestions of where i could maybe try them out too would be much appreciated.

I don't know how far you are from Cabelas in Wheeling, but they have a case full of calls. The calls that are in the case are Acrylic. You can also try the calls that are poly, they are not in the case, they're individually packaged. I've seen several guys trying out both kinds. The only thing, I would call before hand if you're looking for something specific,to make sure they have it. I was down there a week ago and they said they were going to get several more calls in. The # is (304) 238 0120.
When I was there trying out a Zink goose call, blowing it inside that building, doesn't do the call any justice. Good Luck

StormingLabs, what kind of budget are you working with. There are some awesome polycarbonate calls out there which are priced decent, but if you are going to progress you will need to get into an acrylic relatively soon. The tone that judges are looking for in main street style duck calling comes from an acrylic call. Meat calling has different requirements in the routines typically, and "duckier" sounding calls are the norm. What it really comes down to is your desire and commitment to it. That will ultimately determine how much you spend. I would recommend attending some contests and seeing what it is all about. Let me know if I can help further.

thanks for the info guys, i am saving up to hopefully buy an acrylic, but with a part time job, i don't have that much to put back every week. I would like to get into mainstream calling and those contests seem cool. I hope to be able to one day be put on some pro staffs, and further my love for duck hunting. Thanks again.
