We've got an old Yamaha on Kelleys Island, can't tell you off the top of my head what year it is, but we've got historical plates on it if that tells you anything. Needs some carb work right now, but other than that never had any problems.
I would go with a club car gas motor. On the club car the frame is aluminum. The motor has a oil filter. My club car is a 2004. I have the lift kit, brush gard, it is surprising what it will go through. It is a real work horse. It would be nice to have a gator or kabota but I wanted something I can drive on the road and up town. For around $300.00 bucks I made it street legal. Take care and good luck.
Stay away from electric if you want to run it in the winter or on cold days. Cold weather is hard on all those batteries. Club car is the way to go

I hear almost the opposite from guys on some of the golf cart sites. They pull some pretty impressive trailers with the electric ones. Most claim the biggest issue is brakes.
I'm looking myself.
i have a 1990 par car 2 cycle. runs like a champ and i've never done anything other than put gas and oil in it, and one new battery, $40. the kids run it like they stole it during the summer around the yard. i put those knobby atv tires on it and it goes very well in wet and muddy places, and its only 2 wheel drive. its light and doesn't make ruts. lift kits aren't available for it but i just avoid the high corn and logs. i use it for all my hunting around the neighborhood. neighbors don't care i run through their yards to park behind the houses because it leaves no footprint i was even there! batteries for electric ones are very expensive! $900 for a group of 4 is standard for good ones. BRAKES????? heck i barely use mine at all! the second you take your foot off the gas mines slowing to a stop. i've seen how golfers slam on the brakes on golf courses and i can see how they would have issues. JMO. good luck finding a good used one, thats a tall order around here. it seems everyone wants one.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The guys on the cart sites say that when pulling big trailers with them, they don't want to stop well. Often because the trailer and load weigh more than the cart.
oh. i can see that. not enough surface area. gotcha. good luck on your search.
