Gander Mountain

I was surprisingly shocked today by the great service and the way I was treated at Gander Mountain today. I bought a shotgun there last week and it had some defects. The guy behind the counter told me that they had to send it back which would take 3 to 4 weeks. I said that is no good because the season would be over by then. I asked to talk to the manager and he said he would take care of me in full and knew that the time frame wouldn't work. I know for sure that I will buy my next firearm from Gander Mountain because of there great service.

Thank you.

Sure doesn't sound like Gander. Perhaps a new, over zealous employee?
He probably was immediately fired for actually helping you, and not overcharging you.
Probably cause Cabelas is opening down the road from them early next year

Any word on them selling to bass pro? Heard there was talk about it.

This is BS. I talked to the manager last night at the west chester store. Long story short bass pro, I believe he said, bought 11% of cabelas stock. He said no worries about points, etc. He said no way is Cabelas getting bought out by bass pro. He said basspro is worth like 4 billion and cabelas is in the 8-9 billion range. He said IF that ever happened cabelas would still honor all points, etc.

I asked him if I should hurry and use my points. He said unless you are really wanting to buy something, no. No need to hurry and use them.
Cabela's current Market Cap is 3.27B at current share price of $47
I don't see any reason why Bass Pro couldn't buy Cabela's. You may remember back in 2004 when K-Mart, facing eminent bankruptcy, purchased Sears for $11 bln. Similarly, very little changed between the two as the K-Mart and Sears brands continue to operate independently as they do today.

If Bass Pro does buy out Cabela's, (which as I understand, any announcement would come after the end of the year), I'd find it extremely unlikely anything would change. Both chains would continue to operate as they do today. Cabela's points aren't going anywhere.
Totally agree with LW. I can buy anything from those two stores cheaper online anywhere else and most of the times shipping is included. Also, I don't have to pay tax
As an example, I can buy Black Cloud for $170 per case delivered to my front door. If I buy the same product from Cabela's I will pay $220 plus freight plus tax.
Also, I don't have to pay tax
Depends on how you define "have to". Most smaller online retailers don't snuggle up with the state of Ohio's taxation department, so their websites don't automatically tax you for purchases. Nonetheless, state law requires all purchases (that aren't exempt) to pay sales (or more specifically, use tax) taxes.

Whether you want to assume the risk of getting caught and pay the tax when you file your taxes or not is up to you. But by the law, yes, you do have to pay tax.

That guy was seriously misinformed.
Bass Pro is worth far more than Cabelas.
The only thing Bass Pro really even wants from Cabelas is the Foremost Bank (credit card department owned by Cabelas)

if the online dealer has a brick and mortar store or distribution center in the state of ohio they have to charge ohio sales tax on internet orders.

you are correct about use tax and filing your state income tax.

Use tax is a PITA, especially if you do business across state lines and the use tax definitions differ by state

He mention that cabelas largest asset is the card. He said what they make off their cc supplies all their stores with inventory.

As far as firearms go the box stores are a joke. Online stores has them beat by $100 or more. Plus no tax and free shipping. I'm seriously thinking about buying me a nice gun with my points and getting another cc. Even with points I hate to over pay.
