Following a disappointing morning yesterday, DeWayne called me this morning to let me know that he finished his season with a mature gobbler. Yesterday morning we hit the woods and I was able to call a pair of gobblers into gunning range. The lead bird was no less than ten feet away when DeWayne raised his gun. He pulled up a tad to fast and the bird spooked. He turned and ran right into the second gobbler. Needless to say, DeWayne was upset.

This morning Tom Marsillo (turkey hunting expert) went out with DeWayne. He called two right into DeWayne's lap, and he was able to harvest his first mature gobbler. He now has a Jake and a gobbler in his first year of turkey hunting. I forgot to ask him if Tom was also filming the hunt. I am sure we will see a photo later today.

Howman, go ahead and spin the dial. I'd be happy to go out and call and film or whatever! I had a blast, and big kudos and thanks go out to "Turkey Tom" Marsillo. His expert calling had two big gobblers come in shoulder to shoulder this morning. The only unfortunate part is from the angle Tom was filming from, the terrain wasn't quite as open as it was for me. You got to see the birds coming, but not quite out in the open like I saw them. In addition to what John has taught me, I've learned a tremendous amount having hunted with Tom twice this season. Many thanks to both of my turkey mentors.

Bo:

Tommy called those birds across two housing developments, a schoolyard, two sets of train tracks, a major state highway, a river and three creeks. They could have set up near the roost but opted for a challenge.

Day-Ron,

Unfortunately Tommy didn't have a gun with him. He definitely could have shot the other gobbler. It hung around for a few minutes looking like he wanted to thrash the one I had taken. The footage Tommy shot wasn't as good as it could have been. I didn't realize from his angle he couldn't see the birds as clearly. If I had let them walk about 3 more yards they would have been in the open from the camera angle. Oh well...we learned some things for the next time.
