Can anyone tell me why the season is closed during deer gun.Lack of GW'S????.Any suggestions???

If I'm not mistaken I remember years back(maybe 12 or 14) I came out of the woods deer hunting by the green tree marsh and a couple guys were carring geese. Was waterfowl open during deer gun at some time????
Was it geese only or ducks too?

You are correct there was a time when the seasons were at the same time. I don't think that they "close" it for deer season, it just happens to be during the split. I think the whole split system is screwed up. They open it up to early and all the locals are gone at the first cold, or wised up. Then the second half starts and ends before the big groups of migratory birds get here. How many times have you seen rafts of ducks after the season is closed for the year? JMO

The reason that waterfowl season is closed during the deer gun season is so that the Ohio hunters can maximize their days afield. There are many duck hunters that hunt deer and look forward to their days in deer camp (I'm not one of them) and would raise _____ is they had to choose between the two (or lose duck days). Ultimately, it comes down to money. How many duck hunters wouldn't buy a deer tag if they could hunt ducks during the deer season? If you think that the timing of the split in the waterfowl season and deer gun season are coincidental....... guess again.
