Don't take your outboard to Dubberts, or at least take some lube if you do.

I took my Suzuki 9.9 motor there to have them look at why it had such a long warm up time in the cold. The motor ran great when it's warm outor after it warmed up in the cold. I dropped it off and waited for the call about what they figured out. After the first week I called to see what was going on. All they would tell me was, " it's not done yet" when asked what they had found out about it, they brushed off the question and wouldn't answer it. So a week later they call and left a message, "Your parts are here.". I called back, asked what parts, the lady said, oh those must be for the tech. I again asked what they found out about the engine. She said she didn't know and didn't want to bother the tech right then. So I call back 4 or 5 days later, I get a guy this time. I tell him what's going on, he's only concerned that the women are calling customers letting them know that their parts are in and now the customers are going to expect their motors to be done. Once again my questions about what is going on with my motor are brushed aside.

So today one of the women calls, and tells me my engine is done and it will be $187. I'm like WTF....... don't you call the customer and let them know what the problem is and see if they want it fixed. I said I called 3 times to see what was going on. She says, we'll when I talked to you before you just wanted to know when it was going to be done. I asked for the manager. She says she's the owner. So I asked what was wrong with it, she said she would get the tech. So he gets on the phone and says that there was dirt in the carb, so he rebuilt it. So I payed for a rebuild kit for the carb and labor. I told him it was brand new for Christ sake. I asked, what about the fuel filter, he says it doesn't have one.

Anyway, I learned a lesson, don't ever take anything there to have it worked on again. Most likely, I'll have the same problem as I did before, the POS hard to get running when it's cold out.

Good prices and Capt. discount but not a big fan. Esp. not a big fan of their techs... Josh
I got the shaft their also. They wouldn't listen to what I was telling them and went as far as telling me I don't know gas from oil. I bought the 2013 E TEC from them.
next time take it to the guy just past the moose lodge by the dive shop i have had good luck with him

Will do, I'm surely not going to take anything back to Duh-bberts. I thought, what the hell I'll give them a chance, I had called 3 other places randomly off the web to get an idea and asked them what they do for the hard starting in the cold. They all said they put in a larger sized jets in the carb to take care of it. I was like cool, should be warranty work, I'll get it done.

I've never heard of someplace doing the work without letting the customer know what was wrong and how much it was going to be.
You should have done it the "old fashioned way", and fixed it yourself. Instead of counting on other entires to do all the work for you.........

Peanut, have you always had such a myopic tendencies, or do you have to work on it daily. I appreciate your attention to my life, but you might want to go find one of your own.

Now take a couple deep breaths and put one foot in front of the other, starting the journey of finding a life. There is hope for you, after all. The Lion found courage, the Scarecrow found a brain and the Tin man found a heart. So there must be a life out there waiting to be discovered by you. Good Luck

The fact that you actually put a few complete sentences together there, actually made me (and likely most of OW) proud! You claimed in an earlier thread that I am a "hater" and "name caller". I would like to disagree with that statement and point out that there are maybe 3 people who I tend do disagree with/dislike on here.

Much of my posting is asking advice from guys whom I know are much more experienced than I am. I have learned over my more than a decade on here, who's a douche and who is not. Then again, idiots get banned and come back under different names.

Some people are arrogant tools, that I take offense too.

Your normal lack of knowledge of the English language, and your stupid/arrogant comment in my thread about my 10 year old being excited (and me being excited for him) about getting drawn for some state deer hunts, proved my theory about the fact that you are an a-hole. Couple that with all the others you've pissed off on here, over the years, and I'd have to say I have a pretty good argument.......

Now please rebut this by telling us how awesome you are and how you don't have to prove Schmidt to anyone, because you go to bed every night knowing you are gods gift to everything you do!

I'm confused. Peanut, do you perform your own warranty work?
There is no worse place to take motors around here. It can only get better dano

Thank you Peanut, just.................. Thank You.
Dan O. I had a problem with Dubberts also when I had them work on my motor! Must have talked with the same lady or (bitch) I will rather walk then call them again, to work on anything!!!!!!
I hate Dubburts. My 250 Yamaha started earlier this year making a sqealing sound. Took it to them, put water on it had it make the sound. Left. 1.5 months later and a pissed off customer I get it back stating it was 800 bucks with labor and a new water pump. Talked to the tech he said your drive shaft was dry making the sound....said I should really have it lubed every time I'm in a shop.... I told him your the only shop that has worked on it and you will never see it again.
Haven't drove the boat yet with teal season....so help me god if it makes a sound they are going to refund me

Funny you say that. Every time I dealt with josh when he was there he took very good care of us. On time and to the point. Even stated way late the day before duck season getting water out of the tank of my tender so I could hunt the next morning. To bad he left.....now I am to
Another compliant about Dubberts. I have done business there on several occasions with a very good experience and some fair experiences.
I had an older small merc motor that needed an impellar and reseal. The motor was up there for over a month and I called to ask if it was ready. They told me they were waiting on a tool to fix it. When asked how long before they would receive said tool they told me they were doing there best and if I wanted I could always just pick me motor up without it being fixed. Not the customer service answer I was looking for.

I then called coastal marine and they said they could have my motor fixed in a few days. I called Dubberts back and told them I was going to pick up my motor. The mechanic called me on the phone on the way there and told me he could not get the gear hub off and he didn't have a tool to do so. I asked him if he was going to be able to get the tool and if he was going to be able to complete the job. He said he wasn't sure. I asked him what I should do and he said you might be best to pick up your motor and take it to coastal marine.

I was greeted by Jimmy Dubbert who was very snide and told me that he was doing me a favor and that they don't normally work on motors this old. When I asked him what to do about it he said he was very busy and would just put the parts in the back of my car and send me on my way. Nice...

When I took my motor in pieces over to costal Marine the service manager Kevin was quick to note that the hub had reverse threads and the screwdriver the mechanic at Dubberts was using to trying to take my hub off made large gouges going in the wrong direction. He was tightening the hub instead of loosening it.

Overall, this was very poor customer service and business attitude. I know I won't be back to do business at Dubberts and considering the bad experience and incapable mechanic I suggest you think twice before going there as well.

With a little reading and studying you can know more then the techs these days. Service manuals are what your 90 per hr kids are trying to comprehend. I still run 2 stroke evinrude and mercury motors and do all my own repairs and maintenance.

But like our cars you need computers and firmware readers for the new chit.
