Blind 3. Lots of birds at all of the blinds. Top notch place. Killed 4 mallard drakes and a gwt drake. Took my daughter and she was more of a spectator and did not shoot.
Hunted blind 1 in Mercer beautiful top notch place ended up with 4 drakes should’ve had our limit but poor shooting left us embarrassed!!! Loved it tho ! Beautiful place and Sean is top notch ! Watched the birds work the fields the evening before saw more mallards here then any where else ive hunted in Ohio!! Highly recommend it!
Has anybody hunted Mercer recently? We are going on the 21 and I wanted to see how people were doing. Also would like to know if it’s starting to freeze or now. Thanks!
We have blind 6 on the 21st. Looks to be a field hunt. Are these box blinds pit blinds? (Says blinds are provided). Anyone seeing any geese up there? Thanks! Never been there before.
Most of Mercer is flooded corn. Sean is the guy to call up there before your hunt. He will give you all the specifics. There are pit blinds and mobile box blinds on trailers that he moves as the birds move. I’m not sure about blind six. I have hunted up there several times and will be there on the 14th. We’ve been there and shot 0 birds, and other times shot our limit. It is worth the trip.
Sean is great guy I hunted there in November beautiful place .. they don’t do blind number this year it’s draw number so you have last pick with number 6. If there are no shows you will move up in picks . Lots of mallards in the area just have to hope they come back to the corn . He also turns the wells on and he runs two ice eaters to keep the corn open. Sean is a great guy and does everything he can to have people kill birds .. a couple days ago they killed pintails in the corn
And all units have blinds and water to hunt over .. if you hunt the corn you hunt flooded corn if you hunt the hatchery it’s a big pond with dry field on the other side for geese or ducks. Also you should go up the day before and watch the ducks pour in to the corn across from the office it’s a beautiful sight to see in Ohio. I’ve hunted Arkansas many years and up by Erie and this place makes you feel like your on a leased hunt on private land
WOW! Thanks everyone!! Much appreciated! From the map it looked just like corn fields and I thought I would be taking our goose trailer up and layout hunting. Glad I asked! Sounds like it’s just duck decoys that are needed. Again, thanks for the information!
I would definitely take some goose decoys. I believe all of the blinds have a dozen or so goose silhouettes, but you still might want to take a few just in case.
I’m there on the 21st also I don’t know what pick number you have but I know he’s running the pumps and has 2 ice eaters running in the refuge portion. My buddy said the fish hatchery is frozen but there will be a little warm up this weekend.. (419) 236-8838
We have pick number 6. I’m over in Knox county so it’s a good 2.5 hour drive over there. I just don’t want to drive all that way just to be iced over. Forgive me I’ve never been there do all of the units have some sort of anti ice capability? (Pump or eater)
You will have last pick and it’s 3 hour 45 min drive for me lol no the hatchery ponds which are usually the last 2 picks do not .. I would give Sean a call and get his opinion . I know if guys don’t show up you will move up on picks
I was there last Monday. All the water was open at that time. There were four empty blinds which is very unusual. With that said, you do have an outside chance of moving up in your pick. It’s worth the trip. We drove 2 1/2 hrs.
