First one I've killed. Obviously I highly doubt it's a barrows but hoped someone would confirm
It's a common. Barrows would have a lot more of orange on the bill
That's what I assumed just to location, have only seen a few of them and never actually put my hands on one. Either way I'll mount her and hopefully find her a partner soon.
Either way Congratulations!
Goldeneyes are awesome looking hens, my buddy mounted one he shot last year.
I agree, either way I have never had a shot at one in Ohio until this one.
Hit the lake the rest of the season and you'll most likely end up with as many as you want.
What lake? I'm not set up for the big lake nor have the knowledge of it. I'm ok sinking my bass boat in the summer, this time of year it's not as forgiving.
If you find someone with a capable boat, I'll furnish the information.
I will keep that in mind, and start asking around.
I know I've shared this before on here, but seems topical. back in the mid-70's, a group of hunters on the Cleveland break wall shot a true drake Barrow's goldeneye. We all gathered around in the Edgewater ramp admiring what we knew was a rare visitor to these parts. It had that distinctive purple head with the telltale white crescent on its nose just above the beak.
Yup I'll spend the rest of the year looking for that guy. Nicely done
I shot one Sunday and it’s already at my taxidermist! It’s absolutely a gorgeous bird.
Ran into a few guys off a breakwall here at home, picking up their gear. When I asked how the shooting was, the one proceeds to tell me, "We saw a few "Burrows" GoldenEye."
So I say, "Ummm, no you didn't.".
"So, I guess hunting ducks for 30 yes don't mean chit, huh?"
"Uhh...yep. If they were close enough for you to tell they were BARROWS, they'd have been in the boat."
I shot a pintail this year!
